Fairmont Hotels and the Iconic Claremont Club and Spa
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, an AccorHotels brand, represents a long-term ownership and management group that provides much needed stability to this iconic site. After years of deferred maintenance due to successive management and ownership changes, Fairmont purchased the 20.3-acre property in 2014. Since then, ownership has provided substantial investment in the property, including a $40+ million renovation of the Hotel’s entire interior. This investment, along with the other improvements described in this website, will ensure the longevity of this historic property for the next generation. Fairmont Hotels & Resorts is the operator of many of the world’s finest hotels and has a proven record with historic properties as evidenced by their current portfolio:
- Fairmont Copley Plaza Boston – 1912
- The Plaza New York City – 1907
- Fairmont San Francisco – 1907
- Fairmont Olympic Hotel Seattle – 1924
- Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn – 1927
- Claremont Club and Spa – 1915
This experience and background is what lead to the purchase of the Claremont Club and Spa site. The new ownership group’s purchase of the site brings this beautiful property into Fairmont’s family of esteemed historic hotels.
This website is intended to keep the community informed of the status of the Claremont Club & Residences project and to provide updates on the next phases of the potential improvements to the site. By clicking here you can also view all of the documents and exhibits submitted to the City of Oakland as part of the formal zoning review process. The project currently proposes a 6,000 sq. ft. expansion to the existing Club facilities, a phased-in increase in Club membership by 250, more and better site parking and pedestrian access, and the development of 43 condominiums and one single family home. Additional details concerning these proposals as well as information about community meetings are provided within this website.
